El Museo del Barrio’s Acquisitions Fund provides direct support to our Curatorial Department, working in collaboration with the Acquisitions Committee, by enabling them to continue growing our Permanent Collection through the acquisition of new works. El Museo’s Permanent Collection offers an in-depth perspective on Latinx art and visual culture in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean. Ranging from pre-Columbian to modern and contemporary art, the collection, totaling more than 8,500 objects, is a unique cultural resource that reflects the institution’s decolonized and diasporic history and ethos. Your support is essential to the vitality of the Museum and enables us to continue upholding El Museo del Barrio’s founding mission of presenting and preserving Latinx and Caribbean art and culture. El Museo del Barrio’s Acquisitions Committee is comprised of art aficionados and collectors who work together with the Curatorial department to make a tangible impact on the Museum’s Permanent Collection. Guided by El Museo’s curators and the Committee Chair, the Committee supports the growth of the Museum’s Collection through philanthropic support and passion for artists, collecting, and stewardship. Convening for two Committee meetings a year, in addition to other informal gatherings, Committee members learn together and benefit from stimulating and thought-provoking interactions with curators, fellow members, and artists.
