El Museo kicks off Uptown Bounce with arts collective Sociedad, featuring Welcome to Nueva York, a three-part exhibition curated by Christian Mártir and Amy Collado, presented in spaces throughout the Museum. Participating artists and original works by: Joe Conzo, Dav Jeffers, Mario CarrionM. Tony Peralta, Amy Collado, Woofie Colon, Christian Mártir, Bembona, Adrian “Viajero” Roman and Noah Ritter of Bien Conectao. The evening will also include a short panel discussion on the effects of gentrification in the Latinx community and music byA Party Called Rosie Perez (DJ’s LayloSUCEChristian Mártir).

An exhibition highlighting the contradiction of Urban Renewal of 1930s/1940s response with  ‘Slum Clearance’ for better housing versus the Urban Decay and abandonment that followed the influx of African American & Puerto Ricans migrants decades later into the very same neighborhoods. Featuring works by Joe Conzo and Joseph Rodriguez. Musical guests: A Party Called Rosie Perez.

An exhibition mimicking The Caribbean Social Club (or Puerto Rican social club) in Williamsburg, as an ode to its owner and founder, Tonita. Representing spaces that will be hidden in plain sight as a safe haven for the future Latinx community. Featuring original works by Sociedad Collective: Christian Mártir, Amy Collado, Bembona, Mario Rubén Carrión, Woofie Colon and Daviston Jeffers, M. Tony Peralta and Adrian ‘Viajero’ Roman.

Join us for a special panel discussion on the current effects of gentrification in the Latinx community with panelists Jose Morales, Creator of Apt 78; Elsia Vasquez, Founder & Executive Director of P.A.’ L.A.N.T.E.: People Against Land lord Abuse & Tenant Exploitation; and Loira “Laylo” Limbal, DJ, Filmmaker & 1/3 of A Party Called Rosie Perez. Moderated by: Luis Tapia, Founder of Black Boy Rise.

ABOUT UPTOWN BOUNCE
Join El Museo del Barrio and the Museum of the City of New York for our FREE summer block party series. In its fifth year, and held on four consecutive Wednesdays, visitors are invited to stop by and dance to music by local New York City DJs, participate in art-making workshops, and more. Food and drinks are available for sale.
