Join us for our last summer block party, in collaboration with East Harlem Live, a Multimedia Art Project, who will present an energetic and inspiring group of artists that are exploring creative ways to express El Barrio’s current moment through art, dance, music and conversations. Featuring a live dance performance by El Barrio’s own Keep Rising to the Top (KR3TS) music by Museam and Oyasound, live interviews, art workshops by Lizania Cruz and multimedia installation by the East Harlem Live crew. Come out to dance and sing to the beat of El Barrio’s streets!

Dance Performance
Keep Rising to the Top (KR3TS)

Keep Rising to the Top (KR3TS), led by award winning choreographer Violeta Galagarza, is a dance group based in East Harlem that provides a positive alternative to social and street pressures by providing varied dance styles such as: ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and African dance.

Vente pa’ca for some funky fresh New York Caribbean/Afro-diasporic beats with our musical guests for the evening, Museam (7 – 8pm) and Oyasound (8 – 9pm). Celebrate community and love with these talented individuals and let their music take you away, around the world, and back to East Harlem!

Our Migration Route is a map that invites participants to create a collective trace of our migration patterns and memories. By using pins and threads, we will trace each participants migration route, from Latin America to the United States to Harlem or other areas of the world. We will also collect memories from the participants experiences and add them to the map.

111! Collective

The 111! Collective, a multidisciplinary art collective will be presenting an ice cream cart inspired mobile radio they are currently working on as well as presenting their multimedia project called East Harlem Live.

Live Interviews/Broadcast
East Harlem Live: Conversations on the Importance of Art and Music for East Harlem’s Youth

East Harlem Live will transform El Museo del Barrio’s courtyard into an online radio studio and will invite special guests from El Barrio to talk about art, dance, music and East Harlem’s Urban Youth. Interviews will include: El Museo’s Teens (6:15pm -7:00pm), a conversation between Violeta Galagarza ( KR3TS Founder and Director) and Councilwoman for the 8th District Diana Ayala (7:15pm – 8:00pm) followed by a very special performance of “Homage to Papi” by Rhina Valentin.

Installation
East Harlem Live Multimedia Installation

Explore a multimedia installation that highlights the grassroots activities East Harlem Live has conducted in the neighborhood these past two years, including images of their pop-up community radio station and the mobile media bike they are currently working on.

ABOUT EAST HARLEM LIVE
East Harlem Live is a Multimedia Art Project based in East Harlem that through photos, texts, videos, sound clips, and live performances East Harlem Live collects stories and amplifies voices of East Harlem’s community as it faces the challenges of a recently approved rezoning plan. Every year they host a gathering called “The People’s Day”. www.thepeoplesday.org

ABOUT UPTOWN BOUNCE
Join El Museo del Barrio and the Museum of the City of New York for our FREE summer block party series. In its fifth year, and held on four consecutive Wednesdays, visitors are invited to stop by and dance to music by local New York City DJs, participate in art-making workshops, and more. Food and drinks are available for sale.
