El Museo del Barrio is delighted to host an extraordinary dance celebration: LIFT/UPLIFT that serves as a climactic conclusion to the feature-length documentary, LIFT, directed by Academy Award nominee David Petersen. Eight years in the making, the film follows a group of remarkable children from underprivileged backgrounds who embrace the discipline, passion, and beauty of ballet to step from the street to the New York stage.
The FREE dance performance celebrates the 30th anniversary of LIFT, founded by Diana Byer, artistic director of New York Theatre Ballet, and includes a new work by Steven Melendez (who was director of LIFT for 2 years), performed by Victor Rosario and the dancers of LIFT. Guest artist, Alicia Graf Mack, will perform a world premiere of a dance she especially created for the celebration, and dancers of New York Theatre Ballet will perform other works.
FREE ADMISSION. To RSVP, click here or email the organizers at tickets4lift@gmail.com
