Artist In Residence: Maria De Los Angeles’ OPEN STUDIO + BOOK LAUNCH
Sunday, December 18, noon–4pm @ El Museo’s Gallery
This event is FREE and FOR ALL AGES.
Meet our artist in residence Maria de Los Angeles during our OPEN STUDIO and what she’s has been working on during her residency at El Museo!
You’re invited to become a part of Maria de Los Angeles most recent project MY SUITCASE (MI MALETA). Share your story on immigration and listen to others’ speak on what it means to be an immigrant, what an immigrant is, does and can do. Through these narratives, Maria de Los Angeles will create drawings and collages onto wearable rice paper.
We will end our Open Studio with an intimate Book Launch and process demonstration of Maria’s limited edition wearable artist book related to Maria’s paper dresses, CORONA DE ROSAS, made in collaboration with Purgatory Pie Press. Accompanying Maria from Purgatory Pie Press is Esther K Smith, author of acclaimed book HOW TO MAKE BOOKS, she will be doing some demonstrations on how to make simple books during the afternoon. This program promises to be a unique and lively experience!
