ABOUT THE BOOK

A brave new collection of poems from Sandra Cisneros, the best-selling author of The House on Mango Street. With more than fifty never-before-seen poems, Woman Without Shame is a moving collection of songs, elegies, and declarations that chronicle her pilgrimage toward rebirth, a coming into power that is the gift of living a woman artist’s life. These bluntly honest and often humorous meditations on memory, desire, and the essential nature of love blaze a path toward self-awareness. For Cisneros, Woman Without Shame is the culmination of her search for home—in the Mexico of her ancestors and in her own heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Sandra Cisneros was born in Chicago in 1954. Internationally acclaimed for her poetry and fiction, which has been translated into more than twenty-five languages, she is the recipient of numerous awards, including NEA Fellowships in both poetry and fiction, a MacArthur Fellowship, the Texas Medal of the Arts, the PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature, and the National Medal of Arts. She has fostered the careers of many aspiring and emerging writers through two non-profits she founded: Macondo Writers, celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2022, and the Alfredo Cisneros del Moral Foundation, which operated for fifteen years. As a single woman, Cisneros made the choice to have books instead of children. Her literary papers are preserved at the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University. Currently she lives in San Miguel de Allende. Cisneros is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico and earns her living by her pen.

Poet, author, feminist activist, former Ms. Editor in Chief, Robin Morgan has published 23 books, including three now-classic Sisterhood anthologies, her best-selling The Demon Lover, her prize-winning historical novel The Burning Time, and latest two: Parallax, a novel, and a seventh book of poems, Dark Matter.
