Join El Museo del Barrio and invited curators, scholars, and participating artists for an online symposium to mark the conclusion of ESTAMOS BIEN—LA TRIENAL 20/21. This virtual event will reflect on the exhibition and its wider context within the field of Latinx art within our contemporary moment. Topics discussed include Latinx visibility within cultural institutions, the importance of intersectionality within the field, and considerations for future iterations. All sessions will include Q&A session with the audience, and will be followed by brief intermissions.

2pm | Debriefing ESTAMOS BIEN
Introduction by La Trienal Curatorial Team reflecting on the imzpact and reception of ESTAMOS BIEN, El Museo’s inaugural La Trienal. Participants: Rodrigo Moura, Chief Curator, El Museo del Barrio; Susanna V. Temkin, Curator, El Museo del Barrio; and Elia Alba, Artist and Guest Curator.

2:35pm | Latinx On View
Curators from across different museums and institutions discuss recent Latinx exhibitions and visibility in the institutional arena. Participants: Julie Rodrigues Widholm, Director of UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Independent Art Historian and Curator; Elizabeth Ferrer, Chief Curator at BRIC. Moderated by Marcela Guerrero, Jennifer Rubio Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

3:40pm | Unfolding Intersectionality
Artists and curators consider the importance and complexity of intersectionality within their practices. Participants: Ariana Curtis, Director of Content, Our Shared Future: Reckoning with Our Racial Past, Smithsonian; Nyugen Smith, La Trienal Artist; and Vick Quezada, La Trienal Artist. Moderated by Vivian Crockett, Curator at the New Museum.
