Taíno: Pre-Columbian Art and Culture from the Caribbean
is the first comprehensive exhibition of Taíno art to be presented in
North America. It provides an overview of the remarkable achievements of this
ancient Caribbean people. The Taíno were
the dominant culture in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba,
Jamaica and the Bahamas from about 1200 AD to the arrival of Columbus in 1492.
The Taíno Legacy, an exhibition
of photographs and videotapes, explores the persistence of Taíno cultural
traditions in the present-day Caribbean and its diaspora. Coaybay: Site of

Four publications accompany the Taíno exhibition. A ground-breaking,
scholarly book, a bilingual exhibition catalogue, an Educator's Resource Guide,
and an Activity Book for children will be available in the
Museum Shop.
Taíno: Pre-Columbian Art and Culture from the Caribbean
was curated by Dr. Ricardo Alegría, Dr. José Juan Arrom, and Dr. Dicey
