beginsWednesday, June 19, 2013
endsWednesday, August 28, 2013
every Wednesday, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
El Museo del Barrio
Admission: Free

Every Wednesday this summer El Museo is staying up late with our resident DJ, 5ifty5ive and resident DJ Les Carbonell. Start the night off with gallery talks by artists in El Museo’s 7th biennial exhibition La Bienal: HERE IS WHERE WE JUMP and stay for free gallery admission, music, dance, and performances. Watch the sun set over Central Park from El Café's courtyard and dance to 5ifty5ive’s mix of soul, Afro Beat, and House.

About the DJ:

DJ Les Carbonell hails from The Dominican Republic, land of Caribbean sounds and rhythms rooted in afro beat. He was raised in the South Bronx where hip hop came to life. It was that musical mix that inspired the house sounds Les blends today, a mix of soul, afro beat, and house influenced by legends like "Little" Louis Vega, Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, Hex Hector, Danny "Buddah" Morales, and Victor Calderone to name a few.

Originally a popular house party at apartment 55 in Washington Heights where friends came together to form dance circles, 5ifty5ive has expanded throughout the boroughs and is making a name for itself in the house music scene. What Maury Matos and friends began as a tradition in their apartment, has quickly grown and become popularized throughout New York City.
