El Museo del Barrio New York

Through more than 50 paintings, works on paper, and sculptures by 36 artists, as well as through popular graphics, videos, photographs, and an illustrated timeline, this exhibition explored the omnipresent theme of the island's most important musical and dance form. Spanning a century (1933-2003), the project gathered works from public and private collections across the Dominican Republic, bringing many to the U.S. for the first time. El Museo expanded the contemporary aspect of this project with a small selection of 8 U.S.-based Dominican artists working in the theme.
