El Museo's Bienal: The (S) Files 2011
Curated by Elvis Fuentes, Curator, El Museo del Barrio
The (S) Files bienal highlights the most innovative, cutting-edge art being produced by emerging Latino and Latin American artists currently working in the greater New York area. The artists are literally "selected from the files" — culled from unsolicited submissions to El Museo over the previous year. With The (S) Files, the museum aims to expand the definition of contemporary Latin American art by exposing the public to a broad and exciting sampling of new work by young artists. El Museo thus keeps in touch with — and responsive to — current art production, while enriching our own artists' archives, a vital national resource for research and scholarship. By turning an exciting spotlight on exceptional rising talents, The (S) Files has proven to be both a popular and critical success.
