El Museo's Bienal: The (S) Files 2007

Friday, July 20, 2007
Thursday, November 15, 2007
Las Galerias

Curated by Elvis Fuentes, Curator, El Museo del Barrio, and E. Carmen Ramos, The Newark Museum; with Rodolfo Kronfle Chambers, Ecuador.

The (S) Files highlights the most innovative, cutting-edge art being produced by emerging Latino and Latin American artists currently living and working in the greater New York area. The artists are literally "selected from the files." The (S) Files is conceived as a means to expand the definition of contemporary Latin American art by exposing the public to a broad and exciting sampling of new projects by young artists. El Museo thus keeps in touch with—and responsive to—the current production of an ever-broadening group of artists while enriching our Artists' Archives, a vital national resource for research and scholarship. The (S) Files has proven to be both a popular and critical success. While celebrating the experimental immediacy and spontaneity of contemporary art, the project offers the excitement of noting exceptional, rising talents while both confirming and promoting quality. Fifty-one artists working in diverse media will be showcased, as well as five artists from this year's "guest country", Ecuador.
