El Bronche: A Star is Re-Born

Sunday, April 4, 2010
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
El Café
Admission: Free

If you are into breakfast, lonche, and laughter, then you have got to come to El Bronche!

Join us at El Café to eat and sit back for an intimate conversation with Mario Montez, who after an absence of three decades confesses his superstardom to Carmelita Tropicana. Expect thespian tales with some singing, some dancing, excerpts of cult film classics, and Tropicana's Performance Art Manifesto.

Mario Montez was born in Puerto Rico in 1935 and grew up in New York City. He first appeared on screen in Jack Smith's queer classic Flaming Creatures, and became one of Andy Warhol's drag superstars, starring in more than ten films. As part of the underground theatre world, he appeared regularly in Theatre of the Ridiculous productions by Charles Ludlam, Ronald Tavel, and John Vaccaro.

Carmelita Tropicana is an internationally renowned performance artist, playwright, actress, and winner of an Obie award for sustained excellence in performance.

Admission: FREE. RSVP required.
