El Museo del Barrio

Classroom Connections are in-depth, long-term multi-session programs designed to link El Museo del Barrio's cultural resources with curricula in learning settings beyond El Museo, including core subjects such as Art, Social Studies, Language Arts and Science. Each partnership consists of a teaching artist from El Museo collaborating with educators from partnering schools or organizations. These partners design and implement programs that enable participating students to develop and apply their visual literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills to subjects they are studying at school while exploring their own culture and identity. Throughout the program, El Museo del Barrio teaching artists and museum staff work closely with educators from each partner school or organization to develop and tailor various artistic practices to meet the unique needs and interests of that partnering classroom or program while striving to ensure the resulting program is relevant and meaningful to the students. Classroom Connections programs typically include museum visits, visits to the partnering site by the teaching artist, art-making activities, and a final presentation at El Museo del Barrio at the end of the academic year.
