Antonio Ramos and the Gang Bangers in NEVERLAND

Wednesday, June 26, 2013
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
El Teatro
Admission: $10

In his newest work, choreographer Antonio Ramos is inspired by the stories of homeless LGBT youth, in addition to his own journey growing up as a queer Puerto Rican. He brings his celebratory and joyous energy to often dark and difficult subject matters such as the search for family, shelter, safe space, and one’s true identity.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, where he learned jazz, salsa and African dance, Antonio Ramos received a BFA in Dance from Purchase College/SUNY. Ramos' choreography has been presented by: DTW’s Fresh Tracks and Split Stream, DanceNow Festival, Movement Research at Judson Church, Joyce Soho Presents, BAAD/Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Dresden Germany with RING, Princeton University, SUNY Purchase and Wesleyan University, and many festivals in Puerto Rico.

Ramos is currently completing a year-long residence at El Museo del Barrio. Artist in Residency at El Museo del Barrio is supported in part by the NALAC Fund for the Arts, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, the Ford Foundation, and Southwest Airlines. This artistic residency was conceptualized and supported in collaboration with Jane Gabriels and Pepatian.
