El Museo re-opened on October 17 with over 4,500 visitors, 150 new members, volunteers and much more.
El Museo del Barrio turned forty and reopened its doors on Saturday, October 17, 2009. The all-day celebration welcomed over 4,500 visitors, and more than 150 of them became new members! The fun-packed day of free programs included gallery tours, performances, concerts, book readings, film screenings, and educational programs for children and adults. We also launched two landmark exhibitions, Nexus New York: Latin/American Artists in the Modern Metropolis, and Voces y Visiones: Four Decades through El Museo del Barrio's Permanent Collection, and inaugurated our new Café! Last but not least, the Empire State Building joined us by shining its lights in El Museo's signature mango-yellow color throughout the whole weekend, heralding the reopening to the entire city.
