April, 2010 - Once a month, El Museo del Barrio opens its doors to everyone interested in exploring the vibrancy and diversity of Latino Culture. Through free concerts, exhibitions, gallery tours, art making workshops, walking tours, film screenings, and Spoken Word recitals, SUPER SABADO! showcases traditions, cultural expressions, and the latest in Latino art. In April, Super Sábado celebrates De Aquí y De Allá… Stories From Around New York!

Emanuel Xavier will Program Speak Up! Speak Out! Monthly Spoken Word Series Starting this Fall

New York, NY, April 1, 2010 – Celebrated poet and author Emanuel Xavier will be programming the successful monthly Speak Up! Speak Out! spoken word program starting this Fall, and continuing into Spring 2011. In addition, Mr. Xavier will edit an anthology based on the series featuring the work of some of the most notable and prominent Latino modern day poets.

Director Julián Zugazagoitia Departs After Seven Years of Successful Leadership

New York, NY, March 5, 2010—Tony Bechara, Chairman of the Board of El Museo del Barrio, announced today that the museum’s Director and CEO, Julián Zugazagoitia, will be leaving the institution this summer to assume the position of Director and CEO of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City Missouri, considered one of the most prestigious encyclopedic museums in the United States.

January Super Sabado! Target Free Third Saturdays at El Museo

In January, Super Sábado celebrates VOCES Y VISIONES: Four Decades through El Museo del Barrio’s Permanent Collection, currently on-view.

33rd Annual Three Kings Day Parade

In celebration of the holiday season, El Museo presented two days of themes programming, including the time-honored, legendary Three Kings Day Parade. The festivities featured a cast of Honorary Kings, Madrinas and Padrinos as well as live camels and sheep, a donkey and gigantic handmade puppets, all filling the streets of El Barrio with lively music, colorful dancing, and parrandas (street parties).

December Super Sabado! Target Free Third Saturdays at El Museo

December, 2009 - Our first Target Super Sábado was a huge success! More than two thousand visitors enjoyed a 10-hour marathon day of fun-filled programs, including gallery tours, indoor and outdoor live music, photo-taking, art-making, storytelling, spoken word, and tasty food. Get ready for our 2nd installment, coming up on December 19!
