
All programs are designed to address the New York State Learning Standards in applicable subject areas as well as the New York City
Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Guided Tours and Hands-on Workshops are tailored to meet the curricular needs and interests of teachers and school groups. GUIDED TOURS
Guided tours reflect the Museum’s approach of engaging students in dialogue while looking at selected works of art. During an hour-long thematic tour, museum educators facilitate interactive discussions, encouraging observation and discovery through open-ended questions, while exploring the art and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean. Tours may include sketching and writing activities in the galleries, and are available in English and Spanish.
Program Time & Group Size
Tuesday-Sunday, 12:00 pm-4:00 pm. The maximum group size is 30 students. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students.
Fees: NYC K-12Public Schools: $90. All other K-12 School: $125
HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS
These ninety-minute workshops foster students’ observation, critical thinking and
creativity. After an abbreviated tour in the galleries, museum educators build upon
ideas discussed in the exhibition and facilitate an art-making experience for
students in El Museo’s Taller (art studio). Art forms explored in the workshops
may include printmaking, painting, collage, drawing, and sculpture.
Program Time & Group Size
Tuesday 10:00am-12:00pm; Wednesday-Friday,
10:00am-3:00pm; Saturday-Sunday, 11:00am-3:00pm. The maximum group size is 30 students.
One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students.
Fees: NYC K-12 Public Schools: $130;
All other K-12 Schools: $175.
LATINO CULTURAL WORKSHOPS
Workshops are offered at the Museum and offsite in conjunction with the following cultural celebrations and theme months. Each workshop, led by a museum educator, includes an introduction to the history and cultural traditions associated with the celebration, including its food, music, and folk art practices, followed by a hands-on workshop.

CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS
Classroom Connections is a multi-session school partnership program designed to
link the thematic content of El Museo’s collection and exhibitions with social
studies, English, math, science, and art using the New York State Learning
Standards and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts
as guidelines for the creation of lesson plans. El Museo works in partnership with
educators and administrators to design a program that meets the specific needs
of each classroom. The program includes curriculum-planning sessions, multiple
visits to the classroom by a museum educator, art-making workshops, visits to the
Museum, and a final student art project.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
El Museo’s After School Programs offer students and teachers an opportunity to
explore El Museo’s collections and exhibitions with a museum educator during after
school hours. Designed to meet the needs and interests of each school, these
multi-session programs include curriculum-planning sessions, visits to the classroom
by a museum educator, art-making workshops, visits to the Museum, and a final
student art project.

Reservations are contingent on
availability. Tours and workshops must
be scheduled at least 4 weeks in

Special Needs
During the reservation process, group
leaders should inform the Museum
of any special needs or access
challenges of their group. The
Museum is wheelchair accessible.
Chaperones
One adult chaperone must be
present for each group of 10
(K-12) students. The chaperone
must accompany the group
throughout the duration of the
visit. El Museo reserves the right
to terminate a program that is
inadequately supervised or that fails
to follow Museum guidelines.
Arrival
Group leaders must arrive 15 minutes
in advance and check-in with the
Museum Shop upon arrival. If a group
arrives more than 15 minutes late,
El Museo reserves the right to
cancel or shorten the duration of
the program.
Group Lunches
There are no onsite lunch facilities.
Bag lunches will be stored in the coat
check. Groups may picnic in Central
Park which is located across the street
from the Museum. A list of local
restaurants will also be provided.
Payment
Payments for tours and workshops
may be made by cash, check, money
order, purchase order, or credit card.
Please make payments to Amigos
del Museo del Barrio. Payment
must be received at least 2 weeks in
advance of a scheduled visit.
Cancellations
El Museo requests cancellations of
programs at least five working
days in advance of the scheduled
visit. You may fax (212) 831-

line, followed by date of visit), or call
(212) 660-7113. Groups cancelling
less than 48 hours in advance of
a scheduled visit will be charged a
cancellation fee of $50 per guided
tour and $125 per hands-on workshop.
Same-day cancellations will be charged
the full amount of the program.
Parking
Parking is not available at the
Museum. Buses may drop off and pick
up passengers, but may not park in
front of the Museum. Public parking is
available on Madison Avenue between
105 and 106 Streets. |
