With the Museum’s collection and exhibitions as a point of departure, El Museo offers a range of adult public programs that engage a cross-section of artists of various disciplines, writers, scholars and critics who share diverse perspectives with our audiences. Programs are organized by series that address ideas and concerns across disciplines that include the visual arts, film and video, literary arts, and architecture and design. Through artist talks, panel discussions, symposia, literary events, performances, gallery talks, and film and video programs, El Museo offers participants a wide range of formats through which to explore Latin American and Caribbean art and culture.

Voces: Conversations with Latino Artists
2nd Wednesdays, March through May and September through November, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

This series of curator-moderated artist talks aims to explore the complexities of Latino contemporary art through discussions with invited artists. FILM & VIDEO

Nuevo Cine: Recent Films from Latin America
1st Wednesdays, February through May and October through December,  6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Following the tradition common to many Latin American countries, where Wednesday night is the night to go to the movies, El Museo presents Nuevo Cine: Recent Films from Latin America on the first Wednesdays of the month. These screenings feature new fiction and documentary films/video dealing with issues related to the Latino community.

LITERARY ARTS

SPIC UP! SPEAK OUT! Latino Spoken Word Open Mic
3rd Saturdays, March through May and September through November
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Recognizing the influence and power of Latino poets on New York City’s spoken word culture, El Museo del Barrio provides established and emerging Latino/a spoken word artists with a platform for expression, a welcoming venue and an open mic. Offered every 3rd Saturday of the month, March through May, Spic Up! Speak Out! features an exciting line-up of urban poets who have voiced their minds in speakeasies and small clubs around the city, which each evening organized and hosted by a guest poet. After the performances, the audience is encouraged to grab the mic and speak up!

In our lingo: Dialogues Between Latino Authors
3rd Tuesdays, April  through May, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

With a recent publication as a point of departure, In Our Lingo brings together Latino authors in conversation with filmmakers, artists, and other authors to share their views on the ideas, themes, and social issues addressed in the work. These intimate dialogues give the audience a unique perspective on contemporary Latino literature.
