31st ANNUAL THREE KINGS DAY
Friday, January 4, 2008
Registration: 8:30 am
Parade: 11:00 am


El Museo del Barrio offers the 31st Annual Three Kings Day Parade to K-12 school children, families, East Harlem residents and all of New York City.  Learn about the tradition of Three Kings Day, a festive holiday observed in Puerto Rico, the greater Caribbean, Latin America, and throughout the United States. El Museo’s dynamic parade will be led by the Three Kings, parade Marshals, Madrinas, Padrinos, and live camels, sheep, and donkeys, winding through the streets of El Barrio showcasing lively music, colorful costumes, and bright floats.  An educational theatre program will precede the parade which will include folkloric music and dance performances as well an introduction to the cultural traditions associated with this holiday in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Admission: Free. If you are interested in observing the parade, you do not need to register. Registration is required for participation in the parade and children’s theater program. Please note, space is limited for the theater program. Children of all ages are welcome. Advance registration will close Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Following December 19, onsite check in and registration will be available on January 4th in El Museo’s Fifth Avenue courtyard. THREE KINGS DAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Sunday, January 6, 2008, 3:00 pm

All families are welcome to join El Museo’s exciting celebration on Three Kings Day!  This special holiday presentation in El Museo’s Teatro Heckscher will feature musical entertainment and a special holiday concert by Puerto Rican Cuatro player José Gonzalez and his Banda Criolla.

Admission: Free with ticket. Ticket distribution begins at 1:00 pm at the Teatro Heckscher theatre box office on the day of event. Seating is limited; two tickets per person only.

If you have difficultly downloading the Registration Form, this information may be copied and pasted into the body of an email and sent to: ThreeKings@elmuseo.org. Please provide all requested information with accurate spelling to expedite your registration.

All groups must submit the Registration Form by Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Once your registration form has been received, you will be sent a Confirmation Form for the Friday, January 4, 2008 program along with the Three Kings Resource Guide, Photography Waiver Form, and a list of eateries. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How long is the parade?

  • El Museo’s Three Kings Day Parade is from 11AM-12PM (approximately 1 hour).

How do I view the parade?

  • If you are interested in observing the parade, you do not need to register. Parade viewing along the route begins on 106th Street near Lexington Avenue (see map of parade route). The public and community are encouraged to stay along the sidewalks of the parade route. Please be advised that the parade route may be re-routed on the day of the parade in the event of inclement weather.

How can I participate in the parade?

  • All groups participating in the theater and parade program must check in and register on the day of the program from 8:30AM-10:30AM at El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue (between 104th and 105th Street). El Museo staff will direct registered participants to line up between 10:20AM-10:50AM. The parade starts promptly
    at
    11:00AM.
