Bienvenidos to El Museo del Barrio, New York City’s leading Latino cultural institution!

Celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2014, El Museo was born from the vision of our avant-garde artist-founder, Raphael Montañez Ortíz, who created a platform for Puerto Rican, Latin American, Caribbean and Latino artists to present their works.

In March, we welcomed our new Executive Director, Jorge Daniel Veneciano, an accomplished curator, scholar and administrator. “I see the organization in a kind of renaissance,” said Veneciano. This year we present MUSEUM STARTER KIT: Open With Care, on view from March 12 – September 6, 2014, an exhibition that addresses the importance of connections through an exploration of the museum’s founder, its exhibition history, and the possibility its galleries represent. The new exhibition will complement our existing exhibition PRESENCIA, which highlights works from our Permanent Collection.

Our team is busily working on our renowned family series, SUPER SABADO! Free Third Saturdays at El Museo. A fun-filled day of art-making, storytelling, concerts, performances, and of course gallery tours. Visit our calendar for upcoming dates.

We invite you to El Barrio to experience our acclaimed exhibitions in Las Galerias, shop for a special gift at La Tienda, and savor some of your favorite Latino treats at El Café. And of course, we encourage you to support our work through a donation and/or through the gift of membership.

Hope to see you soon!

Warm Regards,

Jorge Daniel Veneciano
Executive Director, El Museo del Barrio
