Casitas: Gardens of Reclamation Project Wall November 14,1998 to February 28,1999 Ejlat Feuer, photographer, and Daniel Winterbottom, Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Washington, have been documenting New York's casitas for the past four years. Casitas are based on the "casita de madera" or "little wooden house" that appears in the vernacular architecture of the Taíno Indians in Puerto Rico. They are powerful works of traditional cultural expression, transforming vacant lots into valuable community spaces.
